A Simple and Mini Detox for Your Health!
Sounds strange?
Well it did to us too…until I tried it. It is practiced in Chinese and Ayurveda medicine to clear toxins and cure disease…
What do you do?
You simply rinse the teeth and gums very thoroughly with a tablespoon of any vegetable oil. For example…sesame seed, almond or olive oil.…and gently move it around your mouth with a sort of sucking or swishing action….for about 15-20 minutes. You can do this up to 3 times a day on an empty stomach. Other practitioners however, believe that the oil should only be left in for 5-minute intervals before spitting. This is to prevent ingesting the toxins back into the body.
When finished, spit out the oil and wash the mouth out with water or brush your teeth. The oil will be thin and milky. It is poisonous with bacteria… so do not swallow it.
There have been many health claims related to this practice. The first sign of improvement is that the teeth will become firm and white.
We‘ve read an account of an Indian fellow whose teeth were loose. It was suggested that he have a full extraction because the rot was too deep. After doing this procedure over a 6-month period of time, his teeth were still intact.
Here’s the theory behind the swish…taken from curezone article:
While sucking the oil, the human salivary glands produce saliva, and with that saliva, the body dumps toxins. During this time, the stomach produces digestive juices, expecting the oil to be swallowed. The liver starts producing bile, expecting the oil to be swallowed. In that bile, the liver dumps heavy metals and some other toxins. Oil sucking will cause a production of bile, and it will increase excretion of bile. That way it will improve digestion, intestinal health, colon health, and prevent constipation.
A few other healing indications mentioned in the articles we read were:
Disappearance of dark pouches below the eyes
More energy
Deep Sleep
Clearing of Psoriasis
Less aches and pains
Better memory
Let us state here that WE are not making claims regarding this procedure but are simply reporting what we have read. However, we did want to include that the information, does acknowledge that reversing many conditions could take anywhere from two days to a year. Adding, that of course this would depend on the condition.
You might consider giving it a try. And if you do, you can discover for yourself whether you find any healthful benefits.

Cancer's Sweet Tooth! by Patrick Quillan PHD, RD, CNS

By Patrick Quillin, PHD, RD, CNS
From The April 2000 Issue of Nutrition Science News
During the last 10 years I have worked with more than 500 cancer patients as director of nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of
Of the 4 million cancer patients being treated in
The 1931 Nobel laureate in medicine, German Otto Warburg, Ph.D., first discovered that cancer cells have a fundamentally different energy metabolism compared to healthy cells. The crux of his Nobel thesis was that malignant tumors frequently exhibit an increase in anaerobic glycolysis -- a process whereby glucose is used as a fuel by cancer cells with lactic acid as an anaerobic byproduct -- compared to normal tissues.1 The large amount of lactic acid produced by this fermentation of glucose from cancer cells is then transported to the liver. This conversion of glucose to lactate generates a lower, more acidic pH in cancerous tissues as well as overall physical fatigue from lactic acid buildup.2,3 Thus, larger tumors tend to exhibit a more acidic pH.4
This inefficient pathway for energy metabolism yields only 2 moles of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) energy per mole of glucose, compared to 38 moles of ATP in the complete aerobic oxidation of glucose. By extracting only about 5 percent (2 vs. 38 moles of ATP) of the available energy in the food supply and the body's calorie stores, the cancer is "wasting" energy, and the patient becomes tired and undernourished. This vicious cycle increases body wasting.5 It is one reason why 40 percent of cancer patients die from malnutrition, or cachexia.6
Hence, cancer therapies should encompass regulating blood-glucose levels via diet, supplements, non-oral solutions for cachectic patients who lose their appetite, medication, exercise, gradual weight loss and stress reduction. Professional guidance and patient self-discipline are crucial at this point in the cancer process. The quest is not to eliminate sugars or carbohydrates from the diet but rather to control blood glucose within a narrow range to help starve the cancer and bolster immune function.
The glycemic index is a measure of how a given food affects blood-glucose levels, with each food assigned a numbered rating. The lower the rating, the slower the digestion and absorption process, which provides a healthier, more gradual infusion of sugars into the bloodstream. Conversely, a high rating means blood-glucose levels are increased quickly, which stimulates the pancreas to secrete insulin to drop blood-sugar levels. This rapid fluctuation of blood-sugar levels is unhealthy because of the stress it places on the body (see glycemic index chart, p. 166).
Sugar in the Body and Diet
Sugar is a generic term used to identify simple carbohydrates, which includes monosaccharides such as fructose, glucose and galactose; and disaccharides such as maltose and sucrose (white table sugar). Think of these sugars as different-shaped bricks in a wall. When fructose is the primary monosaccharide brick in the wall, the glycemic index registers as healthier, since this simple sugar is slowly absorbed in the gut, then converted to glucose in the liver. This makes for "time-release foods," which offer a more gradual rise and fall in blood-glucose levels. If glucose is the primary monosaccharide brick in the wall, the glycemic index will be higher and less healthy for the individual. As the brick wall is torn apart in digestion, the glucose is pumped across the intestinal wall directly into the bloodstream, rapidly raising blood-glucose levels. In other words, there is a "window of efficacy" for glucose in the blood: levels too low make one feel lethargic and can create clinical hypoglycemia; levels too high start creating the rippling effect of diabetic health problems.
The 1997 American Diabetes Association blood-glucose standards consider 126 mg glucose/dL blood or greater to be diabetic; 126 mg/dL is impaired glucose tolerance and less than 110 mg/dL is considered normal. Meanwhile, the Paleolithic diet of our ancestors, which consisted of lean meats, vegetables and small amounts of whole grains, nuts, seeds and fruits, is estimated to have generated blood glucose levels between 60 and 90 mg/dL.7 Obviously, today's high-sugar diets are having unhealthy effects as far as blood-sugar is concerned. Excess blood glucose may initiate yeast overgrowth, blood vessel deterioration, heart disease and other health conditions.8
Understanding and using the glycemic index is an important aspect of diet modification for cancer patients. However, there is also evidence that sugars may feed cancer more efficiently than starches (comprised of long chains of simple sugars), making the index slightly misleading. A study of rats fed diets with equal calories from sugars and starches, for example, found the animals on the high-sugar diet developed more cases of breast cancer.9 The glycemic index is a useful tool in guiding the cancer patient toward a healthier diet, but it is not infallible. By using the glycemic index alone, one could be led to thinking a cup of white sugar is healthier than a baked potato. This is because the glycemic index rating of a sugary food may be lower than that of a starchy food. To be safe, I recommend less fruit, more vegetables, and little to no refined sugars in the diet of cancer patients.
What the Literature Says
A mouse model of human breast cancer demonstrated that tumors are sensitive to blood-glucose levels. Sixty-eight mice were injected with an aggressive strain of breast cancer, then fed diets to induce either high blood-sugar (hyperglycemia), normoglycemia or low blood-sugar (hypoglycemia). There was a dose-dependent response in which the lower the blood glucose, the greater the survival rate. After 70 days, 8 of 24 hyperglycemic mice survived compared to 16 of 24 normoglycemic and 19 of 20 hypoglycemic.10 This suggests that regulating sugar intake is key to slowing breast tumor growth (see chart, p. 164).
In a human study, 10 healthy people were assessed for fasting blood-glucose levels and the phagocytic index of neutrophils, which measures immune-cell ability to envelop and destroy invaders such as cancer. Eating 100 g carbohydrates from glucose, sucrose, honey and orange juice all significantly decreased the capacity of neutrophils to engulf bacteria. Starch did not have this effect.11
A four-year study at the National Institute of Public Health and Environmental Protection in the
Limiting sugar consumption may not be the only line of defense. In fact, an interesting botanical extract from the avocado plant (Persea
Since cancer cells derive most of their energy from anaerobic glycolysis, Joseph Gold, M.D., director of the Syracuse (N.Y.) Cancer Research Institute and former U.S. Air Force research physician, surmised that a chemical called hydrazine sulfate, used in rocket fuel, could inhibit the excessive gluconeogenesis (making sugar from amino acids) that occurs in cachectic cancer patients. Gold's work demonstrated hydrazine sulfate's ability to slow and reverse cachexia in advanced cancer patients. A placebo-controlled trial followed 101 cancer patients taking either 6 mg hydrazine sulfate three times/day or placebo. After one month, 83 percent of hydrazine sulfate patients increased their weight, compared to 53 percent on placebo.15 A similar study by the same principal researchers, partly funded by the National Cancer Institute in
In 1990, I called the major cancer hospitals in the country looking for some information on the crucial role of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) in cancer patients. Some 40 percent of cancer patients die from cachexia.5 Yet many starving cancer patients are offered either no nutritional support or the standard TPN solution developed for intensive care units. The solution provides 70 percent of the calories going into the bloodstream in the form of glucose. All too often, I believe, these high-glucose solutions for cachectic cancer patients do not help as much as would TPN solutions with lower levels of glucose and higher levels of amino acids and lipids. These solutions would allow the patient to build strength and would not feed the tumor.17
The medical establishment may be missing the connection between sugar and its role in tumorigenesis. Consider the million-dollar positive emission tomography device, or PET scan, regarded as one of the ultimate cancer-detection tools. PET scans use radioactively labeled glucose to detect sugar-hungry tumor cells. PET scans are used to plot the progress of cancer patients and to assess whether present protocols are effective.18
In
The irrefutable role of glucose in the growth and metastasis of cancer cells can enhance many therapies. Some of these include diets designed with the glycemic index in mind to regulate increases in blood glucose, hence selectively starving the cancer cells; low-glucose TPN solutions; avocado extract to inhibit glucose uptake in cancer cells; hydrazine sulfate to inhibit gluconeogenesis in cancer cells; and SCMT.

Antioxidants! What are they and what do they do?

Antioxidants act as cell protectors, and are believed to help protect the body from free-radical damage. In order to fully understand this mechanism we would need a brief refresher course in Physiology/Chemistry 101 ... well skip that here :-).
Just to sum it up, antioxidants help to prevent cell tissue damage that has been linked to disease and aging. They do this by donating one of their own electrons to neutralize damage to cells by free radicals. This ends the electron-stealing reaction because antioxidants themselves are stable with or without this electron.
Eating a balanced diet and getting 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables per day is an excellent start to ensure an adequate intake of antioxidants. A few of the better-known antioxidants include carotenoids--the substance that gives fruits and vegetables their deep rich colors. Apricots, broccoli, pumpkin, cantaloupes, spinach, carrots, red bell peppers, and sweet potatoes, are some good choices in addition to lycopene in tomatoes.
Other examples of antioxidants include, Vitamin C, E, A (which is converted from beta-carotene), and selenium (a mineral).
Vitamin C - The most abundant water-soluble antioxidant in the body. Acts primarily in cellular fluid. It also helps return vitamin E to its active form. Present in citrus fruits and juices, green peppers, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, kale, cantaloupe, kiwi, and strawberries.
Vitamin E - d-alpha tocopherol. The most abundant fat-soluble antioxidant in the body.Primary defender against oxidation. Present in nuts, seeds, vegetable and fish oils, whole grains (esp. wheat germ), fortified cereals, and apricots.
Vitamin A - (Beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A (retinol) by the body) The body will only convert as much vitamin A from beta-carotene that it needs, which makes this a safe source of vitamin A. However, be careful of supplementing with Vitamin A. Too much via supplementation can be toxic.
Selenium - A trace mineral and a proven antioxidant. The most concentrated food source is in the Brazil nut, which contains about 120 mcg. Seafood and poultry are also good sources, as are grains…especially oats and brown rice. But the amount of selenium in foods depends on how much was in the soil to begin with. With the mineral depletion in the soil today, it is unlikely that you will get too much in your food.
Adding a rich source of antioxidant foods into your diet will help protect your body from the long-term and cumulative effects of free radical damage. Antioxidants have been shown to protect the body from diseases like cancer, heart disease, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease.

Sea Salt ... A Healthy Alternative!

Regular refined table salt is an unnatural substance striped of its valuable nutrients and is about 97.5 % sodium chloride. Sea Salt that has not been unrefined is pinkish or gray in color, moist and full of important minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium, sulfur, iron, zinc, copper etc. It’s a natural salt source of twenty one essential minerals and many more lesser elements. This makes Sea Salt much better for you than regular salt. And you need salt to make hydrochloric acid which helps you digest proteins.
It was Linus Pauling, Ph.D. (Two time Nobel Prize Winner) who said: “You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.”
Your body can not make minerals therefore it’s important to get your mineral needs met in someway. Using Sea Salt is just one tool to help you meet this need. And using natural salt is as old as human history. Salt was even a major source of exchange in the distant past because it was seen as such a precious commodity.
Since we are going to use salt in our diet anyway, maybe its time to get rid of the over processed refined variety and try SEA SALT! There ARE health benefits!

Co Q 10 for a Healthy Heart

Our bodies could not survive without energy producing Co-Q 10. It’s a necessary nutrient needed for the proper functioning of every cell. Without it we would not have enough cellular energy to fuel the physiological reactions we need to survive. As a powerful antioxidant, it also protects the body from free radical damage that can damage important parts of the cell. Several small studies have even shown a benefit for some cancers, possible because of its immune enhancing effects.
The heart requires the most Co-Q 10, calling for a constant supply of energy to pump blood throughout the body. Numerous studies have shown that Co-Q10 can support the cardiovascular system when dealing with such issues as mitral valve prolapse, hypertension, cardiomyopathy, irregular heartbeat, angina and high blood pressure.
Since Coenzyme Q 10 assists the body on a cellular level, sufficient stores of this nutrient are needed to fight off illnesses such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and Parkinson’s disease. Having enough Co Q 10 ensures that you can retain proper muscle function and overall stamina.
This important nutrient is easily depleted by stress, age, illness, exercise, and some drugs. Along with blocking the liver mechanism that manufactures cholesterol, cholesterol-lowering drugs, like Lipitor, Zocor and Pravachol (also known as statins) block the production of coenzyme Q 10. Other drugs such as antidepressants and beta blockers also deplete this important nutrient.
Co Q 10 is essential for the functioning of every cell in our bodies. Again, without it we could not survive. When it drops, so does our cardiovascular health, our immunity and general health. When Co- Q10 levels are boosted, so is our immune systems response. Therefore, taking a look at Co Q 10 may assist you in reversing cardiovascular disease, symptoms of fatigue or generally in enhancing the immune system and fending off disease.

Olive Leaf ... An Immune Enhancing Herb!

A natural anti microbial….which supports the immune system in controlling viruses, fungi, bacteria, and some parasites.
We first learned of the benefits of Olive leaf in relation to fighting fungus/yeast in the body…via Doug Kaufmann…the first host of the TV show “Your Health”
We have used it for several years now…as a preventative and immune modulator, to fight off flu like symptoms, sinus infections, yeast overgrow, and have mixed it with water to make skin salves.
It is important to keep our immune system functioning at optimal levels…which in turn protects us from disease…It is the active ingredient in olive leaf extract called oleuropein, that has been shown to assist the body in this immune defense.
When our body is over-burdened with some form of pathogen…be it a virus, fungi, yeast, bacteria, or parasite, our immune system will suffer because of it…and this can lead to serious illness… Olive leaf offers a powerful alternative to conventional antibiotics for many infectious diseases. This is especially beneficial in light of the ever evolving antibiotic-resistant microorganisms.
The only known side effect of taking Olive Leaf is the possibility of a Herxheimer reaction. Herxheimer is a (beneficial) flu like response which signals that the Olive leaf is working and killing off germs… This response, which generally lasts only a few days, can be adjusted by lowering the dose. This allows the body time to process the die off of these germs and the toxins they produce.
So whether your wanting to combat yeast overgrowth, build the immune system or simply fight off an infection…it may be helpful to take a look at Olive Leaf Extract.

Milk Thistle...For A Healthy Liver

But the liver has more to do than just filter poisons out of our body. In order for us to remain healthy our liver also performs (but is not limited to) the following functions:
Blood detoxification and purification
Metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates
Bile production and excretion
Enzyme activation
Excretion of bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones, and drugs
Care of the liver is key to TOTAL BODY HEALTH!
One way that we can assist the liver and gain health is by taking Milk Thistle…also known by it’s botanical name, Silybum marianum, or by its 3 main active compounds collectively known as silymarin.
Milk Thistle is an herb with an ability to defend and rebuild the liver. It is considered by many to be the best product for liver detoxification, protection and regeneration. Its active compounds silymarin is ten times more potent as an antioxidant, than Vitamin E. This makes this powerful antioxidant helpful in preventing free radical damage throughout the body, but especially in the liver, stomach, and intestines.
This cleansing and fortifying herb assists the liver in in part, by preventing the reduction of glutathione. In fact studies show that Milk Thistle actually increases glutathione levels significantly and it is the glutathione, an amino-acid like compound that is critical to neutralizing toxins.
There are now 137 scientific studies on pubmed, heralding the benefits of Milk Thistle. If you need more proof…check here for the studies http://www.pubmed.com/
When purchasing Milk Thistle, it is important that you choose a standardized product which contains a minimum of 70% to 80% silymarin in each dose. This would ensure that a significant amount would reach the bloodstream and eventually reach the liver, giving you the full therapeutic benefits.
So if you are feeling sluggish, or suspect your liver needs a bit of help, you might take a look at an amazing herb called Milk Thistle!

Noni! A Natural Wonder!

Noni has been researched extensively by scientists since the 1950’s by leading institutions in Hawaii, Ireland, France, the Netherlands and more. Leading researchers to respect Noni’s healing properties.
We first heard of Noni (morinda citrifolia) on TV and became interested after hearing Dr. Richard Becker of (Your Health) say that it is perported to be 75% as affective as Morphine for pain. A cox 2 inhibitor without side effects…WOW what a claim!
I had been having muscle and joint pain while withdrawing from antidepressants. These Fibromyalgia like symptoms are common in withdrawal. So I thought I’d take a shot at it.
What I noticed is RELIEF!
As I’ve written before…your central nervous system can be affected from withdrawal for at least a year to a year and a half. I started having the muscle pain almost immediately after withdrawing, so I thought…why not try it?
It takes a couple of weeks for a real benefit but it does work! It’s amazing that at first you do not notice that anything has happened. Except that you are not in pain. And what is the general response to this revelation! For me it was...I must be well…it wasn’t the NONI!
So I stopped using it and the pain returned.
I’ve used approximately 12 (32oz ) bottles of pure Noni since withdrawing from antidepressants. It has helped me immensely, in ways I‘m sure I‘m not even aware of at this time. But, taking NONI has made me a believer in it’s pain and inflammation relieving capabilities.
When purchasing…make sure it is PURE Noni!
Some distributors add grape and other juices to their Noni to sweeten it, but you’re getting sugar and less Noni. While their may be some benefit to these products even though they are diluted, I prefer pure Noni and believe I get a greater benefit from it than I do a diluted version of the product.
If you are in pain, have inflammation, or want to increase your immune system. You may want to try Noni. It has made a believer out of me!

The Truth about Eye Health!

Some of the causes of eye disease that the doctor mentioned was poor circulation, lack of oxygen, macro/micro nutrients, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and protein. These deficiencies lead to inflammation, and chronic disease.
He said that prescription drugs can definately effect eye health. The over the counter drug Tylenol, was one of the worst offenders. These drugs deplete glutathoine (an amino-acid like compound that is critical to neutralizing toxins) and that this depletion, is directly connected to eye disease.
Today, with all the toxins in the environment, it’s a constant battle to avoid bad health, and bad eye health. It takes total dedication to proper diet, exercise and prayer to retain or regain healthy eyes and body.
Some of the most important supplements mentioned to support healthy eyes, were CO-Q10, ALPHA-LIPOIC ACID, L-CARNTINE and B-VITAMINS.
He also said that it is imperative that we get large daily quantities of colorful fruits and vegetables loaded with enzymes and antioxidants. Eliminating sugar was a must as well. A daily intake of FISH OIL is very important for the eyes as well as the rest of our body. He recommended that everyone take 4000mg’s daily.
He cautioned us, however to understand that here is no magic bullet. We must get back to basics and take charge of our own health. Health wise, 70% of what happens to us, is up to us. We can only blame our father for 15% and our mother for 15%. GOD gave us free will… So it’s up to us to make the right choices.

NEED WE SAY MORE!
Corn Syrup - A Dietary Staple?

In the 1970’s HFCS was discovered to be cheaper to make and sweeter than table sugar (processed fructose is 20 times sweeter). Since that time HFCS and sugar in general has become a corner stone of the American Diet.
High fructose corn syrup is made from cornstarch and is used to sweeten many common and frequently consumed products, like fruit juices, canned fruits, cookies, baked goods, and dairy products. It is also the only caloric sweetener used in one of the most consumed products in modern times…Soft Drinks.
Fructose has no vitamins, minerals or enzymes so it takes micronutrients from the body while it assimilates itself for use. Of course fresh fruit contains natural fructose, but fruit also contains the nutrients that are needed to be assimilated in the body.
Again, the occasional indulgence is understandable…but since sugar is an immune suppressant, has no nutritional value, and stimulates the appetite…it is best to limit it.

Eating Healthy is Difficult!

You can eat organic fruits and vegetables if you can afford it or clean your food with a natural cleanser, but there are no guarantee‘s there. And then there is the depletion of the soil. Although we need 76 minerals daily for our bodies to function properly. Only nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium commonly replaced in our soil today.
Cattle and chickens are injected with hormones and antibiotics, and are fed grain. This of course is not their standard diet and grain can often be contaminated with fungus. So, unless you can afford to eat grass fed beef and poultry etc, that are not injected with these poisons then you are not getting the correct level of nutrients there either.
We all know that fish has a potential for mercury contamination. And eating farm raised fish have been linked with contamination as well. Farm raised fish are also fed grain.
Then we have processed foods, devoid of any real nutrients, hydrogenated fats, excessive use of sugar, caffeine, artificial preservatives and colors. Trying to avoid all of this can really be difficult.
Of course we are occasionally going to indulge in these foods. Who can keep from it really. Since they are often times our only option in some settings, especially when we are on the go.
Anyway, my point is that we are bombarded with things in this environment, which taxes our natural systems. And yes, we can be diligent. But I personally don't even think that is enough.
Therefore we choose to take a food source vitamin, mineral supplement, and probiotics along with changing our diet to one that is higher in more natural healthy foods and less of the man made processed variety. Starting to do these small things along with exercising, drinking lots of clean water and other healthy habits are just some of the things we can do to regain our health.

Rebounding and Removing TOXIC WASTE!

Our bodies are constantly removing toxins and waste from our cells. The lymph system is the debris first stop on its way out of the body. It’s role is critical in preventing illness and it is important to the over all healing process. Some of the organs that are part of the lymphatic system are lymph nodes and lymph veins, the tonsils, adenoids, appendix and spleen. The lymph system is twice the size of our circulatory system.
Since, it is our lymph nodes that are checked when cancer is suspected, it makes sense to assist them in doing their job. Normally, lymph ducts remove waste through gravity, internal massage to the valves of the lymph ducts, and muscular contraction from movement and exercise.
In Europe stimulation of the lymph flow is the fourth most commonly prescribed medical treatment. However, healthcare practitioners in America seldom consider the lymphatic system’s critical role in preventing illness or its importance to the over all healing process.
We have many pieces of exercise equipment: the gazelle, hand weights, bun and thigh rocker, and cross bow…and we have had others in the past…but for me the best piece of equipment for detoxification of the lymph system is the rebounded.
We've owned my rebounded for about 4 months now and we love it…
But what is a rebounded you say?
A re-bounder is a mini-trampoline which is about 4 feet in diameter. You stand on it and gently bounce up and down. However, you can add to the intensity of the workout when and if you feel the need…..for example…. to gain a general cardiovascular benefit or to increase endurance.
Our rebounded stays available, since we use it everyday. However, it can be folded and put away at any time.
The rebounded can be used for as little as 10 to 15 minutes at a time or several times a day. Just put on your favorite CD and bounce to 3 or 4 songs and your done…and you’ve given the lymphatic system a tremendous boost.
So get that lymph system moving and remove the toxins from your body. Assist the body and the lymph system any way you can…through diet, exercise, stress reduction and deep breathing…
But why not also add rebounding.

Was it Skin Cancer!
My dad had a pre-cancerous lesion on his back, about as big as a nickel. He saw the doctor and the doctor must have looked at it or dug at it or something because when I saw it, it looked like he had scraped off the top part of his skin and left a gaping wound.
He was to go back to the doctor in about 2 months, to have it examined more closely and possibly have surgery. I asked dad if I could put an olive leaf treatment on it. He agreed.
So, I took a few Olive leaf capsules, which contain 100% Oleuropein (the active ingredient in olive leaves) and a couple of drops of water and made a paste with it, and bandaged it up.
After a few days I'd wash it off and do it again. Sometimes in-between we would leave it alone, just to allow air to get to it. After about 2 treatments I noticed it was looking gooey and filled with puss. The outer edges of the area were inflamed and I thought that possibly I should not tamper with it again.
Then it hit me. Maybe this area was healing. Just possibly this treatment was working. With dad’s approval we continued. I made the preparation and put it on the lesion again. A week or so later I looked at it and it had raised up like new skin about 1/3 of an inch, really strange, like a protrusion. Then a few days later, I asked my dad how it was doing, and he said...IT FELL OFF! I said what do you mean! He said, I don't know it just fell off!
Hummm! Curious! So, we decided to stop by, and have a look at it. It was completely healed! No sore! No protrusion! Is it possible, like in the HOXEY video and like the Hoxey Paste, that the Olive leaf pulled out what could have been "CANCER". Was it cancer or was it Fungus! Who knows!
But for those of us who think its possible that Cancer has a fungal component. Like we do, it does seem curious.
Food for thought…on your way to True Healthy Living Now!

The Importance of Exercise!

A sedentary lifestyle leads to disease and a sure demise of the body. When the good LORD created us, he designed our bodies to be resilient. We’re meant to move, run, jump, climb, and be active in as many ways as possible. As we put a greater demand on our body it will rebuild a little stronger each time to compensate for the new greater demand.
1. The heart and cardiovascular system become stronger.
2. Our metabolism becomes balanced and burns calories and unused fat for energy.
3. Our glands will release the proper hormones for growth and repair, helping to keep our hormonal system balanced.
4. Through sweat and work the lymphatic system will rid the body oftoxins.
5. Blood pressure and cholesterol levels will become easier to keep incheck.
6. The risk of diabetes will be easier to keep at bay.
7. It will help to ward off mental decline as we age and protect againstforms of dementia and alzheimers.
Well, by now I guess you’ve heard the new dietary and fitness guidelines recommending 30 to 90 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise a day. I know many of you feel 30 minutes 3 times a week was hard enough to find time for, much less the new recommendations.
There are experts that feel once you work yourself to a good level of fitness, backing off to 30 minutes 3 times a week may suffice for sustaining a maintenance level of fitness.
Keep in mind it has been proven that strength training is just as important as aerobics or cardio. You must have a balance of both. Guys you don’t have to become full time bodybuilders, and ladies I promise, you won’t end up looking like men (unless you use illegal steroids) which I know you won’t and I definitely do not recommend.
So please, do yourself and your loved ones a favor and start a responsible exercise program.
Most everyone lead hectic lives today, working a job, taking care of the family and doing household chores. All this leaves little time for an exercise/workout program. But, if you want to acquire and maintain a level of good health, you must find the time.
Do you spend time watching TV? Most likely the answer is yes. So, just give up a little TV…Can you train yourself to get up earlier and workout in the morning?…Sure you can…See there, you’ve already made time. We really can find the time for something so important. We owe it to ourselves and our loved ones. We’ll live a much longer life and be more productive in the long run.
I’m sure we all want to age gracefully. The future doesn’t have to be, visit after visit to the doctor, with medicine…medicine…and more medicine…Always tired, with no energy and becoming frail, barely being able to get around and eventually maybe even a life in a nursing home.
I’m sure you’ve seen this scenario before with some one you know. Well, it just doesn’t have to be this way. There are no absolutes, when it comes to our health and longevity. But, there is one thing for sure. If we all keep eating the SAD (Standard American Diet) and do not become active and exercise, we will eventually fall prey to ill health.
Just look at Jack Lalanne and his lovely wife Elaine. They’re perfect examples of good health and longevity through proper nutrition and physical exercise. Jack didn’t believe in eating white flour and sugar products back in the 1930’s. He was way ahead of his time.
Jack has been referred to as the godfather of fitness. He opened the first modern health and fitness spa in the United States in 1936 and went on to bring exercise to TV with his own show in 1951 that was popular for 33 yrs. Jack was very sickly as a kid and was a sugar-holic and wasn’t really expected to live a long life. His mother took him to hear a pioneer nutritionist, Paul Bragg, when Jack was age 15. That changed his life and led him to become the respected health and fitness expert he is today.
Over the years Jack has performed many feats of strength and endurance, amazing the public. When he was 60 yrs. old he swam from Alcatraz to fishermen’s wharf pulling a 1000 lb. boat, while handcuffed and shackled. At the age of 65 in Tokyo Japan, he pulled 65 boats loaded with 6500 lbs. of wood pulp. And At age 70, in Long Beach California he pulled 70 boats loaded with 70 people through high winds and rough water. Jack also holds the world’s record for doing 1033 push-ups in 30 min’s. He accomplished this at the age of 42. Jack was also responsible for inventing several weight lifting apparatuses and they’re still used today.
Jack will turn 91yrs. old, later this year. He still works out and looks years younger than his age. He’s as strong and spry as ever, full of vim and vigor. You can see Jack and Elaine on their infomercial (Jack Lalanne Juicer) on TV.
They also have a website www.jacklalanne.com.
Sorry I’ve gotten so lengthy here, but Jack and Elaine are a great inspiration for us all. They are a perfect example of leading a healthy long life, being robust and productive far into the senior years, and are to be admired by us all.
Back to exercise…There are many forms you can incorporate into your lifestyle and time frame.
AEROBIC or CARDIO EXERCISE
1. Walking (indoors in place or outdoors) at a vigorous pace.
2. Running or Jogging (be careful, these can be hard on the joints).
3. Bicycling (stationary, spinning or standard outdoors).
4. Aerobics (step, dance, kickboxing, jazzercise etc…there are various types to choose from) take a class at the gym or purchase one of the many videos on the market to workout with at home.
5. Equipment (there are many different pieces of equipment to assist
you in performing cardio). Elliptical, Rower, Stepper, Treadmill,
Rebounder (mini trampoline, easy on the joints and ligaments and
great for assisting the lymphatic system) our favorite.
PLEASE always check with your doctor before starting an exercise program.
Start slow and easy, work your way up to the proper intensity for the full benefit. When you reach proper intensity level, please don’t go beyond to exhaustion. This can over tax your system by creating a high level of oxidative stress, becoming problematic.
No matter what type of aerobic or cardio activity you decide to use, consistency is the key to being successful. Being a weekend warrior doesn’t get the job done. So, you can join a gym and get professional instruction….You can workout with one of the many TV exercise programs….You can purchase a workout video and exercise in the privacy of your home… No matter what you decide (clear it with your doctor) and just get moving.
STRENGTH TRAINING
Strength training (anaerobic activity) comes in many different forms and is just as important as aerobics or cardio. Our muscles will gradually waste away if they are not worked (use it or lose it).
By working the muscles and putting a greater demand on them, they will respond and build stronger to meet the greater demand. We will have more strength, which in turn will make daily activities much easier, and will keep us from becoming weak and frail as we grow older.
Okay, so you workout and do your aerobics and cardio, which should keep you fit. Right!Well, this is right to a degree and it will keep your cardiovascular system in tip top shape and tone your muscles some. But, not enough to keep the muscles at their proper strength level. Let’s take jogging, the arms are working the whole time you are moving, but not with enough intensity to actually make them respond and grow much stronger. This is good, but we can do better.
You’ve probably heard the term NO PAIN NO GAIN. Well, it’s true. But, let’s keep it in perspective. There is good responsible pain and there’s bad pain. Let’s look at the bicep curl for instance, and see how it creates the good pain.
With dumbbell in hand…arm hanging down to the side of your leg…palm facing your leg…elbow into your side staying stationary and acting as a hinge…you now raise your lower arm and dumbbell rotating your palm to face your shoulder on the way up…do not pause at the top… immediately lower the dumbbell back to starting position…repeat this movement several more times in a smooth controlled manner.
Lets say you were able to repeat that movement 8 to 10 times. With the proper weight dumbbell and on the last couple of movements you would begin to feel a tight burn in the bicep (muscle on the front of your upper arm) you would be experiencing the good pain. You would have worked the muscle to partial failure (meaning it would have been difficult to have done one two more movements).
In weight lifting terms, you just completed…1-set of 8-10 repetitions.
When you started to feel the burn, you were slightly tearing down your muscle and with proper rest and nutrition, over the next several days it will rebuild slightly stronger. This is basically how the process works. You tear it down and it rebuilds. This should give you sufficient understanding of the difference of good pain and bad pain. If you train incorrectly or try to lift too much weight, you could feel pain in a joint or damage a muscle (this is bad pain). Stop immediately and seek medical attention.
If you are a beginner or especially a senior, please take it slow. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. Don’t over do it in the beginning, because you will become injured or drain your self and become discouraged and possibly quit all together.
Your muscles, joints and nervous system will adjust and your strength will increase gradually over time. What a feeling when you can increase the amount of weight you are using every so many workouts. This is what you have to strive for over time. No matter what your age, if trained correctly you will see great improvement.
Through study and research, cardiovascular experts now realize that strength training offers a significant benefit to health and fitness that far exceeds just shaping muscles.
There have been many studies done on the elderly and the benefits of strength training. The results were astounding. However, if you are elderly and your doctor has cleared you for exercise, I highly recommend joining a gym or hiring a certified fitness trainer.
Along with cardio and strength training, the importance of flexibility and balance training are paramount for the elderly. This is handled quite well with professionals.
Falling is the leading cause of death in the elderly. This is due in part, to inactivity, poor eating habits, the wasting of muscles and the frail state of the entire body. Studies prove if done correctly, muscles, strength, flexibility and balance can be increased by an amazing percentage when exercised, regardless of age.
STRENGTH TRAINING EQUIPMENT
Let’s look at the many different types of equipment that can be used.
1. Free weights (dumbbells and barbell, weight plates)
2. Machine weight systems
3. Elastic bands and cords
4. Free hand exercise (push ups, chin ups, etc.)
All of this equipment works quite well (each to their own). Free weights are very easy to use. They come in as light or as heavy as you like. They come made in one solid piece and different poundage’s. They also come in a complete set with two small bars, longer barbell and varying poundage plates that can be added, making it very versatile. With the addition of an adjustable bench you have a basic home gym, very inexpensively.
Machine weight systems come in all sizes and prices. They are very user friendly and easy to get accustomed to. You can find them in most gyms (with professional instruction) or you can purchase one for home use (they come with instruction).
I’m sure you’ve seen commercials on TV for Bowflex and Weiders crossbow (similar to bowflex). I own one of the very first bowflex units made by schwinn. I also own a Weider crossbow. I have no ties to either company and am not trying to advertise for them. But, I highly recommend both units. They provide a very safe and efficient workout. There was a recall on the newer Bowflex unit, due to seat breakage, however, I believe that has been resolved.
I alternate using the crossbow and free weights, for variety.
I know some of the bodybuilding experts feel that you can’t get a quality muscle building workout with either of these machines. But, they seem to work quite well for us and many others.
I have also used the Total Gym (advertised by Chuck Norris) and I will tell you, it will give you a great workout if used correctly. It’s probably not for someone who wants to get huge. But, it will definitely give you a quality workout (cardio and resistance).
All of the above equipment comes with instructions and workout programs. So you really can’t go wrong with most equipment on the market. There is one exception … In our opinion. Please, don’t fall prey to and spend hard earned money on all the expensive abdominal gadgets. Fitness experts say, there is no such thing as spot reduction, especially the stomach. You can work the abs till the cows come home and if they’re still covered with layers of fat, their not going to show. The standard variations of crunches and leg lifts are what you need to train the abs. The key is overall body fat loss, the abs will start to show with time ... Just be patient.
There are many books on total body workouts on the market. There are workout videos and TV programs that you can workout with. No matter what equipment, which gym, or program you decide to use, just dedicate yourself for the long haul and stick with it. Persistence and dedication is the key.
SUMMARY
Please, don’t think because you are exercising, that you can get away with eating a bad diet, because it is just the opposite. When you exercise with enough intensity to yield health benefits, your body is under extra oxidative stress and needs to be properly nourished, to protect and rebuild. So, a good diet is imperative...Here are some of the things we try to do.
Avoid
- Candies, cookies, cakes, chips, colas and other sugar related drinks, and diet drinks, etc.
- Pasta, potatoes, white flour…limit starchy foods.
- All fried foods (oxidized trans-fats play havoc with your health)
- Chlorinated tap water (for drinking)
- Lunch meats (contain sodium nitrate and other carcinogenic additives)
- If one must have alcohol try to limit it to 1 or 2 drinks daily. Wine has protective antioxidants (but, alcohol can be problematic)
Eat
- Plenty of protein (chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon, trout, etc.) limit red meat.
- Grill or bake meat (frying meat on high heat, changes the molecular structure of the protein, making it hard to be assimilated, plus the oxidized trans-fats can lead to many health problems).
- Variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, rich in health enhancing (vitamin, minerals and antioxidants) this is very important.
- Variety of raw nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans, etc.)
- Drink spring or filtered water, at least 8 to 10, 8 oz. glasses a day
(please, read our article) The Numerous Benefits Of Water. - Eat breakfast (please read our article) The Power Of Eating Breakfast
Supplements
I really believe getting our nutrients from food is actually the best. Food has many enzymes and nutrients that haven’t even been discovered yet, that create a synergistic effect in the absorption and utilization process. This of course makes food the superior choice. The closer to nature, the better.
However, it is a well known fact, that with the crop rotation problems over the years, our soil is now lacking in many vitamins and minerals. Our government has even stated that all adults should take a daily vitamin and mineral supplement, because of this problem.
With that being said… Taking a good quality Multiple Vitamin and Mineral supplement along with other complimentary supplements is good insurance. Along with a good healthy diet.
Our daily supplement regimen
- Multiple vitamin and mineral supplement (made from whole food source)
- Omega-3 fatty acid (fish oil or salmon oil)
- Whey protein supplement (with low sugar content and no artificial sweeteners…it’s a good way to get extra quality protein, important while on an exercise program)
- Probiotic (to replenish your intestinal tract with good bacteria to support your immune system). If you are not familiar with probiotics, please read our article (Probiotics…The key to good health) very, very, very, important!
- We also take other supplements when needed… not listed.
Always discuss supplements with your doctor.
A good responsible diet, responsible supplementation and a good exercise program, along with prayer can be life changing. The good LORD gave us everything we need. We just need to use it.
Our society has become accustom to eating anything and everything (overfed and undernourished) leading sedentary life styles and living with daily stress from all directions. Prevention and education…is the answer.
Don’t wait until you’re really sick. Then run to the doctor and take drug after drug (study and research has proven this leads to even more problems) No wonder so many of us are tired, run down, depressed and sick…But, as I stated before… It just doesn’t have to be this way…
Please I can’t stress this enough…We can have all the wealth…riches…power…and…prestige the world has to offer. But, without the love of GOD in our heart and good health…we’re lost, So… pray…love…eat…exercise…and choose to be…happy.
I would like to leave you with some of our favorite quotes… for inspiration.
“I give you every seed bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food” GOD (Gen 1:29)
“Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food” Hippocrates (Father of Medicine)
“Tomorrows doctors will be nutritionist and tomorrows nutritionists will be doctors” (Thomas Edison)
“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got” (Doug Kaufmann…Author and health researcher)
“The healthy human host is self regulating and self healing”
(Dr. Patrick Quillen author and acclaimed doctor)
“Drugs do not heal” (Dr. Richard Becker…author and acclaimed doctor)
“Take care of the most important person there is…YOU”
(Jack Lelanne author and fitness expert)
Whether you’re wanting to have more energy…overcome specific health issues…loose weight…have more strength for daily activities…or just plain lift your spirits and feel great…making responsible exercise part of your daily routine can be life changing.
We sure hope this information is of value and help, to all of our family and friends, also you and yours.
Happy exercising on your journey to…True Healthy Living Now!

This Doctor Says It ALL!
And another by Dr. Greenburg:
"Most people don't realize that pharmaceutical medicine is a false paradigm doomed to failure, as most drugs will damage the mitochondria as well as interfere with essential biochemical pathways. I strongly object to Medicare coverage of prescription drugs, because, the more drugs people take, the worse their health will be. A better idea would be Medicare coverage of nutritional supplements and other alternative treatments such as chelation therapy."--- Alan Greenberg, M.D
VERY INTERESTING......don't these quotes make you go humm.
Sounds like he understands the meaning of True Healthy Living Now!

Our Birthright to Good Health

Welcome to TRUE HEALTHY LIVING NOW! This site was created to share health related information with our family and friends. We have spent an enormous amount of hours studying and researching health and fitness in order to regain our own health. After sharing what we had learned with family and friends we realized we were on the right track when we saw not only our own health improve, but those of our loved ones and friends.
Please understand, any information contained here is meant for informational purposes ONLY and not meant to be used for medical purposes. ALWAYS consult your doctor.
My name is Darlene and my partner in this website and partner in life is Doug. I have battled a chronic debilitating disease for over 20 years. During this time, I saw doctor after doctor and took the drugs they prescribed, yet never really saw improvement. Actually, I was getting worse. I just knew there had to be a better way. Well, after taking things into my own hands, doing the research and changing my lifestyle, via diet, exercise and proper supplementation etc., I’m off the pharmaceutical drugs that were prescribed for my condition. I’m turning the corner on my own health and want to share what I/we have learned in the process.
We are not against doctors and believe that most doctors are good caring people. We also believe that pharmaceutical drugs do save lives and have their place in treating some conditions. But, in our opinion (through study and research) they should only be used short term, or in extreme situations. Finding the root cause of disease and focusing on prevention, with proper diet, nutrition and physical fitness is the answer to obtain our GOD given right, to good health.
THE CONDITION OF OUR HEALTH CARE
We have the most expensive health care system in the world. Yet, where are all the healthy people? The rising cost for health care is in the area of 1.5 trillion dollars a year. Millions of dollars are spent on health research each year, so where are the cures for Diabetes, Cancer, Alzheimer’s, AID’s and other chronic and debilitating diseases?
In our opinion, our health care system (along with the food industry) has let us all down. Just look around you. At least 60% of us are fighting obesity, yet, diet systems and techniques are endless. We hear about low fat diets, and low carb diets and so on. There is every kind of exercise gadget imaginable and infomercials galore on the subject of weight loss. But, still the majority of us are overweight. And just listen to your friends. I’m sure you’ll hear many of them talk about the numerous drugs they’re taking, how sick they are and how they don’t have enough energy to get through the day.
THERE IS A BETTER WAY!
SELF EDUCATION AND PREVENTION IS THE MISSING LINK!
I read recently, that the U.S. Surgeon General, Richard Carmona is in the process of trying to educate the public and policymakers on the importance of disease prevention. Waiting to treat a disease after it is full blown is the wrong path for our nation.
The solution is to invest in prevention!
Many years ago the great inventor Thomas Edison stated:
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."
I guess you could say he saw the light, You betcha he did!
Doctors get very little education on nutrition. Yet, we know the importance of eating the right food to sustain life. Research shows that continuous vitamin and mineral deficiencies definitely lead to disease. Doesn’t this seem a bit confusing. If doctors are experts in disease, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies lead to disease, then why aren’t doctors top notch experts on nutrition?
We were created with a wonderful immune system to protect us from disease. Our bodies are very resilient and can take years of abuse, but sooner or later our compromised immune system will break down and the end result is poor health or chronic illness.
Our bodies are temples and should be treated as such. With proper diet, nutrition, and educated supplementation, along with exercise and prayer, we can all lead healthy lives. So, as you travel through our website and read the information that we have compiled for use by our family and friends. We hope it benefits you and your family as well.

The Power of Eating Breakfast!

Skipping breakfast is really detrimental to our health in many ways. We all know that it’s not healthy to go all day without eating. But how important is it really? Let’s look at it this way.
When we eat dinner…lets say at about 6 or 7 pm, then sleep all night, wake up, skip breakfast, only to eat lunch around noon…we’ve just managed to go about 16 hours with nothing to eat (that’s not good). That’s almost like going all day without eating.
The word…BREAKFAST…literally means to BREAK the FAST. We’ve slept all night without anything to eat…that is a FAST. We awake and it’s time to BREAK the fast. It’s time to eat and refuel.
Many people believe that by not eating breakfast, they will loose body weight. But the opposite is true. Our body has a protective survival mechanism that kicks in when we’re not getting food. It thinks we are in a state of starvation and stops burning body fat for normal energy. This can actually create muscle wasting and possible weight gain.
It’s not rocket science. During our waking hours, our body needs to be fed every 3 or 4 hours in order to keep everything regulated. And it goes without saying, that we must also stay hydrated. This way our energy level is enhanced, our mood is improved, thoughts are processed better (this is really important for children in school) and our cells have the nutrients needed to rebuild. We hope you see just how important breakfast really is.
Some people eat breakfast on the run (pastry, doughnut, processed cereal). All of these foods are okay on occasion, but not everyday. They are all high in simple carbohydrates and sugars. Simple Carbohydrates enter the bloodstream quickly and turn to sugar, causing an over-abundant release of insulin. This increase in insulin causes too much glucose to be snatched from our blood. Now, our blood sugar crashes and we begin to feel slightly tired, lazy and irritable, our concentration is shot and we may be hungry again, before lunchtime. (I’m sure we’ve all experience this)
Remember, constantly eating this way, sends the blood sugar up and down, over and over. This is extremely bad for our health and may contribute in the development of type-2 diabetes.
Eating a BALANCED BREAKFAST and diet is key. Protein and fat do not enter the blood stream quickly. Eating protein, complex carbohydrates and fat together yields a synergistic effect, allowing for the proper absorption of nutrients. Eating this way allows the body to rebuild itself, maintain a steady supply of energy and helps to regulate our metabolism. This is what balanced eating will do for us.
Good example:
- Cooked oatmeal with honey or stevia, sprinkled with fruit, berries and nuts of your choice.
- Poached egg, whole grain toast w/organic butter, piece of fruit.
- Low fat yogurt with fresh berries like, blueberries, strawberries, and your favorite nuts.
- Scramble egg mixed with onion and green pepper wrapped in a whole-wheat tortilla, and a piece of fruit.
- Hardboiled egg, oatmeal or whole grain cereal (not highly processed), piece of fruit.
- Make a fruit smoothie with yogurt and your favorite fruits, and nuts.
- Cottage cheese, fresh fruit, and slice of wheat toast w/butter.
- Western Omelet (use your favorite veggies), handful of mixed nuts and raisons.
- Half of a baked chicken breast, steamed broccoli, almonds or walnuts. (sounds odd for breakfast, but it’s not bad)
Always try to add health-enhancing berries (loaded with antioxidants and numerous nutrients and fiber) like, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries.
Also try adding nuts…almonds, walnuts, etc. These are loaded with protein, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
Bad Example:
- Doughnuts and pastries
- Fast food breakfast sandwiches
- Pancakes or waffles w/syrup
- Biscuits and gravy, sausage or bacon
- Nothing at all
Okay, who can resist these foods all of the time? Eating them on occasion may be okay, but look around at the people who eat these foods everyday. See there!…You get the biggg…picture.
There are so many healthy foods that you can eat. Have fun and experiment. What have you got to LOSE but your hunger…and a few extra pounds….and oh, yeah!…maybe, years of ill health.
Please understand, getting in the habit of eating a responsible healthy Breakfast can be life changing.

Dark Side Of Soy Bean

Respected scientists warn that its benefits should be weighed against proven risks. Even researchers working for the soy industry admit that the “marketing is way ahead of the science.”
Yet the FDA approved a health claim for the soy and heart disease in 1999. I disregarded warnings from independent and government scientist and ignored hundreds of peer-reviewed studies link soy to malnutrition, digestive distress, thyroid disorders, allergies, ADD/ADHD, reproductive problems, infertility, cognitive decline, cancer, and heart disease.
The FDA ruling proved such a financial boon that sales increased 200% between 2000 and 2004. The truth is now starting to appear. Late July, The Israeli Health Ministry warned that children under 16 should eat soy foods no more that once per day and a maximum of 3 times a week, that babies never receive soy formula, and that adults exercise caution when consuming soy products...
The Ministry took its advice from a 23 member committee of nutritionists, oncologists, pediatricians who spent a year examining the evidence.
July of 2005 the Cornell University’s Program of breast Cancer and Environmental Risk factors warned that soy food consumption can increase breast cell multiplication, increasing risk for breast cancer.
In 2002, the British Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in food, Consumer Products and Environment” which found no merit in most of the health claims of soy. They identified infants on soy formula, vegetarians who use soy as a primary source of protein, and adults trying to prevent disease with soy foods and soy supplements as all being at risk for thyroid damage.
This can be confusing since Asian peoples have used soy for centuries and many people believe this keeps them free of most Western diseases. But while Asians show lower rates of breast, prostate and colon cancers, they suffer higher rates of thyroid, pancreatic, liver, stomach and esophageal cancers.
Asians also eat different soy foods from the ones now appearing on American tables…miso, natto, temped, tofu, tamari and shoyu…instead of energy bars, soy shakes, soymik, veggie burgers, TVP chili and other meat or dairy substitutes.
These quintessentially Western products are manufactured using high-tech industrialized processes that destroy protein quality, reduce vitamin levels, and leave toxic residues and carcinogens...
Making matters worse, much of today’s soybean crop is genetically modified. GM beans carry higher levels of anti-nutrients, toxins and allergens that regular soybeans and have caused vast damage to the environment.
Indeed, most of the Amazon Rain Forest has been lost to GM soybean farming than to beef grown for fast-food franchises.
Most dangerous of all, soybeans naturally contain high levels of phytoestrogens. Promotes as safe hormone replacement therapy, these plant estrogens can cause significant endocrine disruption, leading to weight gain, fatigue, brain fog and depression.
Soy foods also have a “contraceptive effect” a fact known to scientists since the 1940”s. For women, it alters menstrual cycles, causing hormonal changes indicative of infertility.
For men it lowers testosterone levels, quantity and quality of sperm and sex drive. Couples who desire to have children are wise to cut out soy. Because of their small size and stage of development, infants remain most vulnerable to damage from soy phytoestrogens. Soy formula now represents 25% of the bottle-fed market in America and yet it’s been linked to thyroid damage, premature puberty in girls, delayed or arrested puberty in boys, and other disorders, Soy formula also contains toxic levels of manganese…50 to 80 times the amount found in diary formula or breast milk.
The bottom line is the safety of soy has yet to be proven. Unanswered questions have let the Israeli Health Ministry, the Swiss Federal Health Service, the British Dietetic association and others to warn parents and pediatricians that soy infant formula should only be used as a last resort. If this isn’t enough reason not to eat soy, I give up. We are putting so much toxic materials in our bodies and then wondering why we are so sick so soon and have so many diseases.
